Turning any problems into opportunities — a big expert session “Innovations in Energy”

Expert session “Innovations in the energy sector. Industry 4.0” was held at the Tech Garden site. It was organized in cooperation with the international exhibition company KAZ EXPO and the Association of Electric Power Industry of Kazakhstan.

On the eve of the Energy Day, more than sixty leading experts discussed the challenges facing the industry and got acquainted with the technologies that the residents of the SIMP platform opposed to these challenges.

The session was attended by the first managers and chief power engineers of KEGOC, ERG, Kazakhmys Energy LLP, Polymetal Eurasia LLP, Balkhash OF Kazakhmys Corporation, ERG Service LLP, Sokolov-Sarbay Mining and Processing Production Association JSC JSC, Almaty Power Plants JSC, Alatau Zharyk Company JSC, Mangystau Regional Electric Grid Company JSC, Ordabasy Corporation JSC, Atyrau Zharyk JSC, Kazakhstan Electrolysis Plant JSC, Eurasian Energy Corporation JSC Vostochny coal mine, JSC Transnational Company Kazchrome, Donskoy Ore Mining and Processing Plant (a branch of TNC Kazchrome), JSC Aluminum of Kazakhstan, JSC Shubarkol Komir, ALEP LLC, ATI Group LLP, OESK JSC, Satbayev University Department of Power Engineering, Ensto Kazakhstan LLP, Tien Shan Engineering LLP, Taldykorgan Joint-Stock Transport and Electric Grid Company JSC, Alliance Solutions LLP, ADVANTEK SYSTEMS LLP, RIZA GLOBAL LLP, LLP “M” IRTEK-Kazakhstan, Promprivod LLP, Energetika Alemi LLP, Bolashak Energiasy LLP, Energy service RTD LLP, Crystal Management JSC, Turgai-Petroleum JSC.

The pool of experts was headed by industry veterans — Chairman of the Board of the ALE “SIE”, Alexander Trofimov, and Advisor to the President of KazNIPIITES “Energia” JSC, Lev Pevzner.

“This year we had the opportunity to discuss the challenges facing the energy sector at the government level. At our invitation, this summer the Minister of ICRIAP RK, Bagdat Musin, took part in a meeting on the basis of AUPET. We discussed with experts such issues as the creation of a domestic IT product for energy accounting, loss reduction, process optimization and staff development. And I hope that at today’s meeting, with a general discussion, we will be able to identify both pain points and rational ways to resolve them,” said Askar Sembin, CEO of Tech Garden.

“Today we are witnessing the fourth industrial revolution, fundamental changes in all industries, the introduction of innovative solutions, breakthrough technologies that lead to the digital transformation of industrial facilities, which is driven by elements of Industry 4.0 such as Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Internet of Things, Big Data, 3D and 5D printing in additive technologies, UAVs, etc. Our session will be divided into Industry 4.0 blocks: UAVs, Digital Twins, AI, SG, VR and, of course, human capital,” said the director of the Digital Transformation Department of Industry Tech Garden, Alfiya Ilayeva.

“We are already implementing many digital projects at our site — one of such interesting projects is being done jointly with AUPET. This is the project ‘Intelligent monitoring and control systems based on synchrophasor technologies WAMS / WACS’. It is important that WACS is implemented by Vice-Rector Almas Saukhimov using Kazakhstani IT developments. And I would like to draw attention to this decision so that other colleagues can also get acquainted. Today, among the topical issues are the coverage of ASKUE for telemetry and telesignaling in RECs. We must start with the technologies that are needed and that will bring quick wins,” said Yerlan Shalbaev, Director of the Innovation and Technology Policy Department of KEGOC JSC.

During the session, the following technologies were presented in six blocks.

Block “Unmanned aerial vehicles”:
1. LLC “Laboratory of the Future” introduced the participants to the project “Kanatahod”: laser-magnetic scanning of high-voltage lines; the results of the pilot projects of MREK JSC, AZhK JSC.
2. “ENI Kazakhstan” showed FIXAR drones equipped with unique software that allows to significantly increase efficiency in various areas.
3. ALSI-ASIA-SYSTEM demonstrated an expanded program for training in aerial photography, thermal imaging diagnostics, mapping and inspection of industrial facilities using drones

Block “Artificial Intelligence — Artificial Intelligence (AI)”:
1. WEG introduced a system of predictive analytics, rotating units, in which data is collected remotely using its own invention — a scanner, the size of a finger battery.
2. LLC “Prosoft-Systems” showed the project “Intelligent electricity metering system. Analytics. Reduction of network losses.

Block “Smart networks — Smart Grid”:
“NPP Bresler” shared their experience on the issue of “Controlled grounding of the neutral in electrical networks 6-10 kV with effective extinguishing of the electric arc in case of single-phase ground faults.”

Block “VR/AR technologies”:
BIM+ Laboratory Center, The Parallel and UROS IoT Kazakhstan demonstrated a training program using virtual and augmented reality technologies; simulators for maintenance of high-voltage lines.

Block “Human capital”:
AUPET and the Center for Industrial Development presented solutions on the topic “Development of human capital in the context of digital transformation. New professions.

After discussing the projects, it was decided to sign a memorandum of cooperation between Tech Garden and the Association of Electric Power Industry of Kazakhstan for systematic work on piloting and subsequent scaling of Industry 4.0 projects in the electric power industry.

“It’s one of the strategies to use one successful experience to scale. In order not to invent a bicycle in forty companies at once. And if it did something well, take this ready-made data and attract investors and financing. We are always open to discuss new ideas. And on behalf of small and medium-sized businesses in the power industry, we are ready to cooperate, work and turn any problems into opportunities!” Arman Telev, chairman of the Association of Electric Power Engineers, emphasized.
